Where Does a Refund Go After You Pay a Retailer with a Gift Card?
A merchandise refund usually follows the retailer’s rules and may return to gift-card balance, the original payment method or a retailer refund card. That is separate from asking Giftoshi to cancel an unused code or reverse a crypto transfer. Start with the retailer, the returned merchandise and the original receipt.
Three official examples lead to different destinations
| Program and situation | Published destination | Evidence to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon.com gift recipient return | Amazon.com Gift Card balance on the account used to create the return | Return confirmation and account used |
| IKEA UK return with proof | Original payment method; accepted no-proof returns may use an IKEA refund card | Receipt or order details |
| Nike France item bought with gift card | Nike says the gift-card portion returns to gift-card value after processing | Order and refund confirmation |
These examples establish program-specific handling, not a universal return entitlement or timeline.
A merchandise return is not a refund of the gift code
After redemption, the code has usually become merchant value or account balance. A returned product is handled by Amazon, IKEA, Nike or the applicable retailer. Giftoshi cannot decide the merchant’s return eligibility or change where that retailer sends the credit.
An unused Giftoshi order, a paid crypto order and a delivered code are different stages. Follow Giftoshi’s cancellation and review guidance for the purchase transaction itself.
A split purchase may create a split refund
If a basket used gift-card value plus another payment method, retain the original receipt showing both. Nike France explains that the gift-card-funded portion returns to the gift-card method, while the other method is also refunded according to its processing.
Do not assume the full merchandise refund will become cash or crypto. The retailer controls the destination under its current policy.

Keep the retailer receipt and identify every method used. The merchant refund route is the useful next step; Giftoshi support is for the separate gift-card purchase and delivery record.
